🎯 3 Steps to market your passion project

You’re a creative, a visionary, a builder on a mission to share your why with the world.

There is only one problem.

It’s noisy and crowded out there, you got to break through the noise to get your idea across.

So, you set up a website, post on social media, send out your mass emails, push flyer at everyone you meet, spam in every group imaginable and… crickets.

You aren’t alone. For anyone that has started a project or business believe me, I understand.

Is there another way to propagate your idea?

Well you are in luck, ‘cus I’m giving you the three tried-and-true steps to effectively spread the word and gain actual supporters to your project.

But FIRST

1) Tell a compelling story

Here’s the truth: People rarely take action because of logic, they almost always make decisions out of emotion. They want to feel something, learn something, be something. Resonate with their desires to gain their support.

That means, you need to create contents that feel intimate, pique their interest and capture your why. Then make sure the sentiment translates to your media, whether is your newsletter, website or social media. People connect with people not brands, so show them you.

Here’s how I do it for OCE: I tell stories about purposeful opportunities, building biz and education. Particularly, connecting with my followers human-to-human, showing my face, and linking my why in my story. Try it.

2. Get social proof

There is a reason why we go to restaurants that our friends recommend us, we check out movies based on what others say, and we buy services because someone referred us – we trust authentic crowd-sourced recommendations. So make sure on your website and social media have endorsements, testimonials, of those who can vouch for you. Check out my testimonial examples.

3. Give, give, give

Here’s a rule of thumb: I try to provide value before asking for anything and I never tit for tat.

And I do this via a lead magnet.

These are free valuable resources such as the “impact internship database” for my audience. This serves two purposes: first it generates subscribers to my newsletter/community and second it allows me to direct them to a self-help tool rather than answering the same question repeatedly.

Simple steps, big impact. Try it out and let me know how well it worked 😉

PS. This summer, we are going to tackle pressing global issues and drive innovation in regions (such as your own community) where it is needed the most. Want in?

We run a summer cohort for ambitious youth (high school and undergrads) to work directly with world-class founders while learning from Silicon Valley leaders.

You can also explore purposeful opportunities through our Impact Internship Opportunities Database.

Get Curious.

There’s a line I never thought I’d write. School told us the map.Study hard.Get the grades.Snag the shiny degree.Land the safe job. Then…security?Happiness?Meaning? Funny. All I see are burned-out adults who did everything “right”…And still feel stuck.Still feel dispensable.Still chasing approval in boardrooms and inboxes and overpriced condos. Something strange is unfolding in North America’s workforce. A quiet unraveling—not in factories or shipping yards, but in offices, on campus, and in the inboxes of career advisors and startup mentors. You can feel it in the numbers: In Canada, the youth unemployment rate (ages 15–24) hit 14.2% in May 2025—up 1.4% from 2024 and nearly double the national average. And this doesn’t even account for the delayed ripple effects of rising tariffs and macroeconomic tightening. Alright, picture this: You’re at some event, hanging out, maybe grabbing coffee, and suddenly someone—maybe even a big-shot investor—asks, “So, what’s your project about?” What do you say? If you freeze or ramble, that’s game over. But if you’ve got a killer elevator pitch, you’ll grab their attention fast and leave them wanting to know more. Got a burning question? I’m all ears. Stuck on a startup idea? Wondering how to use AI without sounding like a robot? Trying to figure out what actually...
